pretending...

yes, yes, i am finally blogging. i've been so busy that when i finally have time to relax i don't feel much like blogging. i've probably lost my faithful 5 readers.

makenzie has always loved pretending. when she was 2 she was obsessed with sitting on my bed pretending it was a car. she used to love to pretend to go on trips, until i told her she couldn't pack up all of her clothes in all her different bags. she loves to be the mommy while playing dolls, etc. i've always loved that she has such a great imagination.

her recent obsession is pretending that she is cinderella or belle and do all the things that are in the books that we read about them. she wakes up in the morning and gets dressed right away, puts on her shoes and apron and asks me to put her hair in a pony tail with a bow. or dances around while sweeping with her broom. just like cinderella. or she puts on her velvet dress and prepares a meal for the beast (her big bear, clancy, is the beast). or goes outside to sit on the bench and read. just like belle.

recently, she keeps getting annoyed that things can't be real. she wants to go pick real flowers for bouquets or have real wreaths made with pinecones, or make real food. can't just be the pretend food from her kitchen, has to be real. so, i let her "make" things in the kitchen, with leftover things from dinners or just flour and other ingredients. but then she was upset that it wasn't real food that she could eat. she actually made a grocery list one day of things that she wanted me to buy for her to cook with - oranges, watermelon, lettuce, milk, etc. i told her groceries are expensive and not just to play with and waste. she was devastated. "but how can i be belle and make food for the beast?!?!" oh the drama.

tonight she asked if she could make food. so, while i was making dinner she made her food. she was a little bummed we didn't actually bake it but finally got over it. i'm glad she has an imagination but it can be a bit exhausting! :)

here is tonight's creation:

reading her recipe...

the result...

at least she loves doing the dishes at the end...

How about getting her a cookbook for kids and letting her make lunch, dinner or dessert once a week? :)Mom
